Biography

Blessed Christopher of Milan, also known as Christopher of Taggia, was born in the year 1410 in Milan, Italy. Unfortunately, little is known about his early life, but it is believed that he grew up in a devout Catholic family.

At a certain point in his life, Blessed Christopher felt a deep calling to dedicate himself to the service of God and entered the Dominican Order at the San Eustorgio convent in Milan. He embraced the life of a preacher and embarked on a remarkable journey as a traveling preacher throughout Italy.

Blessed Christopher's powerful sermons and inspiring messages touched the hearts of many, and he soon gained a reputation for his eloquence, holiness, and humility. It is said that he had the gift of prophecy, being able to foresee various events such as plagues, floods, and even invasions by the Turks.

His dedication to preaching and study is evident from the fact that Blessed Christopher wrote four significant works on sermon preparation. These writings reveal his extensive knowledge and deep understanding of the early Church Fathers, showcasing his commitment to continuing the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.

For some time, Blessed Christopher also served as an abbot at the Our Lady of Mercy abbey in Taggia, Italy. During his tenure, he guided and nurtured the religious community, emphasizing spiritual growth, obedience, and charitable works.

This holy man's exceptional life and virtues were recognized, and he was beatified by Pope Pius IX in 1875. Today, although not currently venerated with a specific feast day, he is remembered and honored by the faithful on March 1st, and also by the Franciscans on March 7th.
