Due to his enslaved status, Francisco required special permission to enter the seminary. However, his decision to pursue the priesthood was met with prejudice and discrimination from his fellow seminarians and the parishioners of his first assignment in the diocese of Campanha. Some even went so far as to refuse to receive Communion from him.
Despite the hardships he faced, Francisco never wavered in his dedication to his vocation. He exemplified patience, forgiveness, and an unwavering commitment to his faith and the priesthood. Over time, his genuine humility and kind-heartedness began to win over the hearts of the people. The initial resistance eventually turned into admiration and support, to the point that there were protests when the diocese considered transferring him to another parish.

Recognizing his extraordinary virtues, Pope Benedict XVI declared Francisco De Paula Victor venerable on May 10, 2012. Then, on November 14, 2015, Pope Francis beatified him, officially acknowledging his holiness. The beatification ceremony took place at the parish of Nossa Senhora D'Ajuda in Três Pontas, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato.
