Biography

Blessed Giles of Assisi, also known as Aegidius or Egidius, was a close friend and the third follower of Saint Francis of Assisi. Born around 1190 in Assisi, Umbria, in the Papal States (modern-day Italy), he dedicated his life to the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment and spreading the teachings of Christ.

After joining the ranks of Saint Francis' followers, Blessed Giles was chosen for an important missionary journey to Tunis, where he aimed to share the Gospel with Muslims. Despite his sincere efforts, he faced considerable challenges and did not achieve notable success in converting the local population. However, his unwavering devotion and commitment to his faith remained steadfast.

Following his return from Tunisia, Blessed Giles settled in various locations throughout Italy. His reputation as a wise spiritual advisor quickly spread, leading to numerous requests for his guidance and counsel.
