Biography

Blessed Isidore Ngei Ko Lat was a young layman catechist in the diocese of Loikaw, Myanmar. He was born on 1920 in Ahtet Tawpon, Kayin, Myanmar. Isidore dedicated his life to spreading the Catholic faith and sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ.

As a devout Catholic, Isidore was deeply committed to his faith and tirelessly worked to evangelize the local community. He sought to bring the light of Christ to all those he encountered, especially in a time when the Catholic Church faced persecution in Myanmar. Isidore's passion for catechesis was evident as he shared the Gospel with great enthusiasm and love.

Unfortunately, during the early years of the 20th century, Myanmar was plagued by political unrest and conflicts. Isidore, together with his fellow Catholics, faced immense challenges and hardships. Despite the risks involved, Isidore fearlessly continued his mission, often risking his own safety to bring hope and peace to the faithful.

Tragically, on May 24, 1950, Isidore Ngei Ko Lat met a martyr's death in Shadaw, Kayah, Myanmar. He demonstrated incredible courage and steadfastness in the face of persecution, choosing to remain faithful to his beliefs until the very end. Isidore's unwavering commitment to his faith and his bravery in the face of danger serve as a powerful testament to his holiness and dedication.

On December 9, 2013, Pope Francis recognized the martyrdom of Isidore Ngei Ko Lat, bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed." This declaration acknowledged Isidore's heroic virtues and confirmed that he had ultimately sacrificed his life for the sake of his faith. Isidore's beatification followed on May 24, 2014, in a ceremony presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato at the Cathedral of San Paolo, Aversa, Caserta, Italy.

Blessed Isidore Ngei Ko Lat serves as an inspiring example of courage, commitment, and unwavering faith. His life and martyrdom continue to inspire and encourage Christians to remain steadfast in their beliefs, even when faced with adversity. Blessed Isidore's story is a testament to the lasting impact one person can make when they fully dedicate themselves to God and his Church. He is remembered and venerated particularly on his feast day, May 24th, each year.
