Biography

Blessed Jacoba De Settesoli, also known as Jacqueline, was born in 1190 in Torre Asturias, Italy, to a noble family. She lived a remarkable life as a mother, grandmother, widow, and faithful follower of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Clare of Assisi.

As a Franciscan tertiary, Jacoba embraced the ideals of poverty, humility, and joyful service to others. Her deep devotion to God and her exemplary life of virtue attracted the attention and friendship of both Saint Francis and Saint Clare.

Legend has it that Saint Francis gifted Jacoba a lamb, which became a cherished companion and would faithfully accompany her to church, serving as a reminder of the humble and innocent nature of Christ. This remarkable lamb would even wake Jacoba each morning in time for services. The story illustrates the strong bond she shared with the animal kingdom and her ability to inspire devotion in all creatures.
