Biography

Blessed Magdalen Panattieri, also known as Maddalena Panattieri, Mary Magdalen Panattieri, or Magdalene of Trino, was born in 1443 in Turino, within the diocese of Vercelli, Piedmont, Italy. At the young age of 20, she became a Tertiary of the Sisters of Penance of Saint Dominic.

Magdalen had a deep devotion to Saint Catherine of Siena, which greatly influenced her spiritual journey. Throughout her life, she lived with her family, dedicating her days to prayer and the care of the poor and young children. Deeply committed to her faith, Magdalen would deliver talks to both lay people and children, and later to priests and religious, inspiring them with her words of wisdom and piety.

An extraordinary event occurred in Magdalen's life when she received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ, on her body. Despite this remarkable occurrence, Magdalen chose to keep it a secret and only confided in a few individuals. Known for her simple innocence and unwavering piety, she continued to serve others silently, offering solace and support to those in need.

Magdalen Panattieri passed away on October 13, 1503, in Turino, Italy, due to natural causes. Soon after her death, her public devotion started spontaneously. People were moved by her exemplary life and the impact she had on their spiritual journey.

Recognizing her holiness and the widespread veneration she received, Pope Leo XII beatified Magdalen Panattieri on September 26, 1827, confirming her cultus. Her feast day is celebrated on October 13th, commemorating her life and her dedication to God and others.
