Biography

Blessed Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart, also known as Clotilde Micheli, was born on September 11, 1849, in Imér, Trent, Italy. From a young age, she exhibited a strong devotion to the Holy Trinity and aspired to live a life of angelic purity and adoration.

Entering religious life, she founded the Institute of the Sisters of the Angels on June 28, 1891. The main aim of the Institute was to emulate the life of the angels through continuous adoration of the Holy Trinity. During her lifetime, Blessed Maria Serafina founded 15 houses dedicated to this mission.

The Sisters of the Angels, under the guidance of Blessed Maria Serafina, worked tirelessly to spread their mission not only in Italy but also in other countries. Today, the Institute has presence and actively carries out its mission in Brazil, Indonesia, Benin, and the Philippines.

Blessed Maria Serafina lived a life of profound holiness and virtue. She was known for her unwavering dedication, humility, and love for God. Her deep contemplative spirit and devotion to the Holy Trinity inspired others to embark on a similar path toward an angelic life.

On March 24, 1911, Blessed Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart passed away in Faicchio, Benevento, Italy. Her profound impact on the religious community and the people she served continued to be felt even after her death.

Recognizing her exemplary virtues, Pope Benedict XVI declared her venerable on July 3, 2009, acknowledging her heroic virtues. Subsequently, she was beatified on May 28, 2011, by Pope Benedict XVI. Her feast day is celebrated on March 24, although some calendars also commemorate her on May 28.

Blessed Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart remains an inspiration to all those who seek to deepen their devotion to the Holy Trinity and to live a life of adoration, emulating the pure and angelic nature she embodied.
