Biography

Blessed Ubaldo Adimari, also known as Ubaldo da Borgo San Sepolcro, was born around 1245 in Florence, Italy, into a noble family. He grew up in a time of political and martial conflicts between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, as well as power struggles between the Pope and the emperor of Germany. Ubaldo, being of a tall stature, chose a life as a soldier and became involved in these conflicts.

However, Ubaldo's life took a turn when he encountered the influential and holy Saint Philip Benizi around the year 1280. Ubaldo became a spiritual student of Saint Philip and underwent a profound conversion. In response to his newfound faith, Ubaldo decided to dedicate his life to serving God and joined the Servite Order as a friar.

After his ordination as a priest in approximately 1283, Ubaldo became an assistant to Saint Philip Benizi and was by his side during his final moments. Ubaldo learned much from his mentor and was deeply influenced by Saint Philip's exemplary life of holiness.

In 1285, Ubaldo was appointed as the prior of the Servite convent in Todi, Italy. During his time in this position, he demonstrated his remarkable faith and devotion through various acts of selflessness and miracles. One notable incident involved Ubaldo breaking the water jug he was using to carry water. Instead of losing the precious water, he cleverly used the cloth of his habit as a makeshift bowl to bring the water back to the convent for his fellow friars.

In his later years, Blessed Ubaldo Adimari chose to spend his remaining days in prayer and penance at the Servite convent on Monte Senario. It was there that he passed away on April 9, 1315, due to natural causes. His burial took place in the Servite church on Monte Senario, near the graves of the Seven Holy Founders.

For his exemplary virtues and the many miracles attributed to him, Blessed Ubaldo Adimari was formally beatified on April 3, 1821, by Pope Pius VII, with the confirmation of cultus. His feast day is celebrated on April 9, as well as on July 14, in honor of the Servites.

Blessed Ubaldo Adimari's life serves as an inspiring example of conversion, selflessness, and deep devotion to God. His enduring legacy continues to inspire and bring spiritual comfort to believers worldwide.
