Biography

Blessed Victoriano Reguero Velasco, born on January 13, 1902, in Valladolid, Spain, was a devoted Catholic priest and member of the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission. He lived during a time of intense conflict in Spain, the period known as the Spanish Civil War. Despite the turmoil of the times, he remained steadfast in his faith and dedicated his life to serving God and his community.

As a member of the Vincentian Congregation of the Mission, Father Victoriano Reguero Velasco embraced the ideals of St. Vincent de Paul, who sought to alleviate the suffering of the poor and marginalized. Father Velasco lived out these principles, demonstrating great compassion and love for those in need. He devoted himself to ministering to the spiritual and material needs of the people, offering comfort, counsel, and assistance.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Father Velasco, along with countless others who defended their religious beliefs, became a victim of persecution and violence. On November 7, 1936, he was martyred in Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, Spain, for his unwavering commitment to Catholicism. He courageously stood up for his faith, refusing to renounce his beliefs, even in the face of imminent danger.

Years later, on March 23, 2017, Pope Francis recognized the martyrdom of Blessed Victoriano Reguero Velasco, signifying his heroic death for the Catholic faith. This declaration further emphasized his exemplary life as a faithful servant of God. Moreover, on November 11, 2017, Pope Francis beatified him, acknowledging his sanctity and offering him as a model of faith and virtue for all Catholics.

The beatification recognition was joyously celebrated at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. This momentous event was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid, who led the Catholic faithful in praising and honoring the newly beatified Blessed Victoriano Reguero Velasco.

Today, and throughout the Catholic Church, Blessed Victoriano Reguero Velasco is venerated as a martyr and a model of courageous faith. His life serves as an inspiration for all those who face adversity and persecution for their religious convictions. May his example encourage believers to stand firm in their faith, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
