The Martyrs of Pergen, also known as the Pergen Martyrs, were a brave group of laypeople who were martyred during the persecutions of Emperor Elagabalus in the early 3rd century. While there is limited information available about their lives, the names of some individuals within this group have been recorded for posterity. Among the known names of the Martyrs of Pergen are Dionysius, Dioscorus, Philippa, Privatus, Socrates, and Theodore. These faithful individuals hailed from Pergen, a city situated in Pamphylia, Asia Minor, which is now modern-day Turkey. During the reign of Emperor Elagabalus, who ruled from 218 to 222 AD, Christians faced severe persecution. The Emperor, driven by his devotion to the sun god, forced Christians to renounce their faith and worship pagan gods instead.
However, the Martyrs of Pergen steadfastly held fast to their Christian beliefs, refusing to denounce their God.
