Biography

Saint Angelina of Serbia, also known as Angelina of Krusedol, Angelina of Krushedol, Angelina Arianit Komneni, Angelina Brankovic, and Mother Angelina, was born in the late 15th-century in modern-day Berat, Albania as Angelina Arianit Komneni. She was the daughter of Prince Georg Skenderberg of Albania, belonging to the noble Skenderberg family. Angelina's upbringing was privileged, but she would go on to lead a life dedicated to faith, service, and humility. In her youth, Angelina was married to King Stefan Brankovic of Serbia. Together, they resided in exile. As a devoted mother, Angelina prioritized the Christian education of their sons. She instilled in them a deep love for God and a commitment to Christian values. Tragically, Angelina became widowed after her husband's death. Despite her noble status, she chose to renounce her position in the world and dedicated herself to a life of spirituality. Angelina decided to become a nun, seeking solace and connection with God. She entered the Krushedol abbey, located in Fruska Gora, Serbia. Within the abbey, Angelina wholeheartedly embraced a life of prayer, contemplation, and service to those less fortunate. Her devotion to caring for the poor and marginalized earned her the admiration of her fellow nuns and the local community. Angelina's spirituality and leadership skills were unmistakable. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps. As her influence grew, she was eventually appointed as the abbess of Krushedol Abbey. In this role, Angelina guided and nurtured her community of nuns, imparting wisdom and fostering a spirit of devotion. Saint Angelina of Serbia passed away in the year 1510 in Fruska Gora, Serbia, due to natural causes. She was laid to rest beside her husband and her sons, Stephen and John Maxim, at the Krusedol Abbey. Although Saint Angelina of Serbia does not have an explicitly defined patronage, her life and example continue to inspire many. Her commitment to prayer, service, and caring for the poor stands as a powerful testament to the Christian faith. Saint Angelina's feast days are celebrated on December 10th and also on July 30th and August 12th on some calendars.
