Saint Franco of Assergi was a Benedictine monk known for his piety, prayerfulness, and remarkable experiences as a hermit. He spent a significant portion of his life dedicated to God at the Monastery of San Giovanni Battista in Lucoli, Italy, where he served as a devout monk for a period of twenty years. During his time at the monastery, Franco's deep devotion and unwavering faith became well-known among the locals. However, seeking a more solitary spiritual journey, he decided to live as a hermit in the mountains of Assergi, Italy. It was in these pristine mountains that he encountered numerous extraordinary occurrences that would add to his reputation as a holy man. One notable event associated with Saint Franco is the emergence of a healing spring. Legend has it that when Franco prayed fervently for a water supply, a spring miraculously sprang forth. This spring was said to possess extraordinary healing properties and subsequently became a place of pilgrimage for the faithful seeking physical and spiritual restoration. Another miraculous tale attributed to Saint Franco is the rescue of a baby from the clutches of a wolf. It is said that Franco stumbled upon a helpless baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, about to be devoured by a vicious wolf. Through his divine intervention, he managed to save the child's life, reflecting his compassion and courage even in the face of danger. However, as word of his miraculous deeds spread, Saint Franco began to draw attention and company, which impeded his pursuit of a secluded life. In an effort to find solitude once more, he retreated into a cave nestled in the mountains, where he shared space with a mother bear and her three cubs.
