Biography

Saint Precia of Epinal, also known as Aprincia, Prec, Prèce, Preci, or Précie, was a devout Catholic nun and the first abbess of a monastery in Epinal, Gaul. She was born in the late 6th century in Gaul, and her lineage is associated with two prominent saints of the time. Precia was the daughter of Saint Goeric, and she was the great-niece of Saint Arnulf of Metz. Raised in a pious Christian family, Precia and her sister Victorina were deeply moved by the teachings of their father and great-uncle. Inspired by their example, both sisters decided to dedicate their lives to God and embrace the religious life. They both entered a local monastery, where they committed themselves to a life of prayer, self-discipline, and service. Over time, Precia's unwavering faith and devotion to God caught the attention of the Church hierarchy. Recognizing her exceptional virtues and leadership qualities, Precia was chosen to establish and lead a new monastery in Epinal, which was located near the Moselle River in modern-day France. As the first abbess of the Epinal monastery, Precia dedicated herself to establishing a community of nuns who shared her commitment to a life of holiness and service. Saint Precia passed away in the 7th century of natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of holiness and devotion to God. Her relics were enshrined at the church of Saint Clement in Metz, France, where they continue to be venerated by the faithful.
