She was born in Chiusi, Tuscany, Italy, and was the cousin of Emperor Claudius. Though not much is known about her early life, she is believed to have come from a noble family and was raised in the Christian faith. During this time, Christianity was facing persecution from the Roman Empire, and many Christians were imprisoned for their beliefs. Mustiola, with her cousin Saint Irenaeus of Chiusi, courageously ministered to these Christian prisoners, offering them comfort, support, and spiritual guidance. Additionally, Mustiola and Irenaeus showed great compassion by burying the bodies of the Christian martyrs who had been executed for their faith.
