Biography

Saint Myron The Wonder Worker, also known as Myron of Crete, was a layman farmer and family man in his younger years. He was known for his deep sense of charity and compassion towards others. One incident in his life, in particular, highlights his extraordinary generosity. During his time as a farmer, a band of thieves broke into Myron's home while he was busy threshing grain. Surprisingly, instead of reacting with anger or fear, Myron took a different approach. He reasoned that if these thieves had resorted to robbery due to extreme poverty, then they must be truly destitute. Without hesitation, he gave them all the food he had and even helped them load it up. His incredible act of charity deeply touched the thieves, and they were filled with shame and awe. Witnessing Myron's selflessness, they underwent a profound transformation and soon converted to Christianity. Myron's reputation for charity and goodwill spread, leading to his selection as a presbyter in Raucia, Crete. As a presbyter, he continued to dedicate himself to the service of others, particularly through acts of charity and as a miracle worker. One notable instance of Myron's miraculous abilities took place when the River Triton in Crete was in flood stage. Unfazed by the tumultuous waters, Myron caused the river to solidify, creating a pathway across it. He walked on the solidified water, determined to fulfill his responsibilities to his parishioners on the other side. As an afterthought, Myron sent a man back to the river with his staff, instructing him to touch the frozen surface. As soon as this was done, the river returned to its natural flow. Throughout his life, Saint Myron The Wonder Worker lived as a shining example of selflessness, piety, and dedication to God. His humble beginnings as a farmer and family man did not hinder him from embracing a life of faith and service. His remarkable acts of charity and miracles endeared him to his community, and he was venerated for his unwavering devotion. Saint Myron was born in the year 250 in Raucia, Crete, and passed away in 350 of natural causes. While his canonization occurred prior to the official establishment of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Saint Myron The Wonder Worker is hailed as a true saint within the Catholic Church. His feast day is celebrated on August 8th, commemorating his life and the inspirational story of his miraculous deeds. Though no specific patronage has been designated for Saint Myron, his life continues to inspire countless individuals to live a life of compassion, charity, and deep faith, making him an emblem of goodness and virtue for believers across the world.
