Saint Severus of Barcelona

The Arians rejected the orthodox belief in the Holy Trinity and held a different interpretation of Jesus Christ's divine nature. As a devout defender of the orthodox faith, Saint Severus actively worked to combat the spread of Arianism and maintain the integrity of Catholic doctrine. Despite facing opposition from Arian Visigoths, Saint Severus bravely stood his ground, refusing to compromise his beliefs. This unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith ultimately led to his martyrdom. In the year 633, nails were driven into his temple, causing his untimely death. This brutal act of violence is symbolic of his martyrdom and is often depicted in artistic representations of Saint Severus, showing him as a bishop with a nail or nails driven into his head.
