Biography
Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina, also known as Blessed Antonio Colomina, was a devout Catholic and a professed cleric in the Sons of the Holy Family. He was born on 12 March 1913 in Albelda, Huesca, Spain.
In 1935, Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina joined the military, where he served during the week while also studying in the seminary during his off-duty hours. However, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 brought about significant changes in his life. The seminary he attended was forced to close, and he was subsequently mustered out of the army.
Following these events, Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina relocated to Barcelona, Spain, where he found employment at a soap factory. Despite the difficult circumstances, he remained steadfast in his faith and actively participated in the spiritual life of the Catholic community.
During this time, the religious persecution in Spain intensified, and the authorities targeted individuals who openly displayed their Catholic beliefs. Sadly, Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina was arrested and eventually executed for his unwavering commitment to his Christian faith.
On 27 January 1937, in Montcada, Barcelona, Spain, Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina gave his life as a martyr for the Catholic faith. While the location of his remains remains unknown, his inspiring story and sacrificial death have made a lasting impact.
Recognizing his martyrdom, Pope Benedict XVI venerated Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina on 10 May 2012, issuing a decree acknowledging his commitment to Christ. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, officially declaring him blessed in the eyes of the Catholic Church.
Blessed Antonio Mascaró Colomina's life serves as a powerful example of unwavering faith and dedication even in the face of tremendous adversity. His sacrifice continues to inspire and encourage believers around the world.
