Biography

Blessed Bonaventura of Potenza, also known as Antonio Carlo Gerardo Lavanca, was born on January 4, 1651, in Potenza, Naples, Italy. He joined the Friars Minor Conventual at the young age of 15, becoming a member of their religious order.

Throughout his life, Blessed Bonaventura served as a home missioner in southern Italy, ministering from various convents in Campania Aversa, Maddaloni, Amalfi, Ischia, Nocera Inferiore, Sorrento, Naples, and finally in Ravello. He was known for his dedication to his religious duties and his theological depth of preaching. As a novice master, he guided and inspired many young men who were discerning their calling to religious life.

One of the notable aspects of Blessed Bonaventura's character was his fearlessness in the face of adversity. He fearlessly worked with plague victims, providing care and solace to those suffering from the deadly disease.
