Biography
Blessed Fernando González Ros was a Catholic priest in the diocese of Almería, Spain. He is remembered for his unwavering faith and his ultimate sacrifice during the Spanish Civil War, where he was martyred.
He was born on August 12, 1871, in Cuevas de Almanzora, Almería, Spain. From a young age, Fernando González Ros displayed great piety and a strong desire to serve God. He pursued his religious vocation and was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Almería.
During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Catholicism faced significant challenges. Many priests and religious figures were targeted and persecuted for their faith. Father Fernando González Ros found himself caught in the midst of this conflict, a staunch defender of his faith till the end.
On September 10, 1936, Father González Ros was martyred in Higuera de los Muertos, Lubrín, Almería, Spain. His refusal to renounce his Catholic beliefs and his unwavering commitment to preserving the faith led to his tragic death.
In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Francis proclaimed him as Blessed Fernando González Ros on March 25, 2017. The beatification ceremony took place in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain. Cardinal Angelo Amato presided over the ceremony, where Blessed González Ros was honored for his sacrifice and devotion to God.
