Biography

Blessed Pierre Boffet, a Mercedarian friar, dedicated his life to the service of God and the redemption of captive Christians. Born in an unknown location and time, he entered the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, embracing its mission to ransom Christians enslaved in Muslim territories. As a professor of theology and a noted preacher, Boffet combined deep intellectual faith with practical compassion, tirelessly working to secure the freedom of those held in bondage.

His unwavering commitment led him on a perilous mission to Tunisia in 1442 to ransom Christian captives. Tragically, his ship was wrecked, and both Boffet and his companion, Blessed Lorenzo Company, were imprisoned by their captors, themselves becoming hostages. While imprisoned, Boffet demonstrated
