Biography

Blessed René Lego, priest of the Diocese of Angers, France, is commemorated for his steadfast witness during the tumultuous French Revolution. Born into a family marked by holiness, he was the brother of the Blessed Jean-Baptiste Lego. As a priest serving faithfully within his diocese, Brother René dedicated himself to the spiritual care of his flock amidst growing political upheaval. His profound commitment to the Church’s teachings became his defining act when the Revolutionary government imposed an oath of allegiance upon the clergy, requiring them to renounce papal authority and submit to state control.
