Francisco de Jesús Bolaños y Rosero

Francisco de Jesus Bolanos y Rosero was a prominent priest and religious of the Order of Mercy in the Royal Audiencia of Quito during the eighteenth century. He is recognized mainly as the founder of the Recoleccion de San Jose de El Tejar and of the first House of Spiritual Exercises for laypeople in Quito. Because of his ascetic life and charitable work, he received the popular nickname "Padre Grande" (Great Father). The Catholic Church recognizes him as a Servant of God; since 2025 his cause of canonization has been in the final stages of supplementary instruction.
