Tomás de la Virgen, born Rodrigo de Tomás y Sánchez, was a Discalced Religious of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity who stood out for his virtues after spending forty years bedridden. During that time he was sought out as a spiritual counselor by the most important political and religious figures of the seventeenth century. Pius VII approved his virtues to a heroic degree and declared him Venerable. His remains are venerated today in the church of the Most Holy Trinity in Valdepeñas, where the bed in which he spent the last forty years of his life is preserved as a relic.
