Beato Daniel Altabella Gracia

Blessed Daniel Altabella Gracia, also known as Pablo Daniel, was a Monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 19 October 1911 in Aguaviva, Teruel, Spain.

Daniel joined the Marist Brothers of the Schools, a religious order dedicated to the education of young people, and he lived a life of devotion and service to God. He took his vows and became a monk, committing himself to a life of prayer, teaching, and caring for the community.

During the Spanish Civil War, a period of great unrest and persecution for the Catholic Church in Spain, Daniel's faith and commitment to his religious vocation were put to the ultimate test. He courageously stood firm in his beliefs, and as a result, he was martyred for his faith.

On 29 January 1939, at the French border of Girona, Spain, Daniel was executed for his refusal to renounce his religious beliefs and abandon his calling. He remained steadfast in the face of adversity, remaining true to his faith until the very end.

Blessed Daniel Altabella Gracia's life and martyrdom serve as a powerful testament to the strength of his faith and his unwavering dedication to God. His sacrifice, along with many others during the Spanish Civil War, is a reminder of the immense courage and conviction that believers exhibited during this dark period in history.

Recognizing his martyrdom and the sanctity of his life, Pope Francis declared Daniel Altabella Gracia venerable on 3 June 2013, and he was later beatified by the Pope on 13 October 2013. This beatification ceremony, where Daniel was declared "Blessed," is a significant recognition of his holiness and the exemplary way in which he lived his life.

Today, Blessed Daniel Altabella Gracia is remembered and venerated on his feast day, which falls on 29 January each year. His life serves as an inspiration for all who seek to live out their faith with courage, devotion, and selflessness.
