Biografía

Blessed José Juan Perot Y Juanmarti, also known as Josep-Joan Perot y Juanmarti, was born on 1 July 1877 in Boulogne, Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, France. He was the son of Antonio Perot and Celestina Juanmartí. When José was still a young boy, his family moved from France to Spain.

Growing up in Spain, José pursued his calling to the priesthood and studied in the seminary of the diocese of Urgell. He showed great dedication and was ordained a priest on 28 March 1903. Father José's ministry started as a coadjutor in several parishes, where he served with humility and compassion.

Recognized for his commitment and pastoral qualities, Father José was eventually appointed as the parish priest of San Juan di Vinafrescal. He faithfully cared for his community by guiding them in their spiritual lives, providing sacraments, and offering pastoral support.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, Father José became a victim of the religious persecutions that plagued the country at that time. On 13 August 1936, he was shot at the gate of the cemetery in SalÖs de Pallars, Pallars JussÖ, Lleida, Spain. He courageously gave his life as a testimony to his deep faith and unwavering commitment to his calling.

Blessed José Juan Perot Y Juanmarti's martyrdom was a powerful witness to his steadfast devotion to the Catholic Church. His sacrifice and the persecution he endured serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by believers during that troubling period in Spain's history.

His cause for sainthood was officially recognized by the Holy See, and on 19 April 2004, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable. Later, on 29 October 2005, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, celebrating the recognition at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, Italy. This beatification ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Saraiva Martins.

Blessed José Juan Perot Y Juanmarti's feast day is celebrated on 13 August every year, marking the day he was martyred. Through his life and martyrdom, he continues to inspire and intercede for the faithful, reminding us of the sacrifices made for the sake of the Gospel.
