Biografía

Blessed José María González Solís, a Dominican priest, was born on 15 January 1877 in the village of Santibáñez de Murias, Asturias, Spain. He dedicated his life to the service of God, and his unwavering faith led him to become a revered figure among the Catholic community.

As a young man, Blessed José María González Solís felt a strong calling to the priesthood. Following his vocational path, he entered the Dominican Order and embarked on his journey of religious formation. Through his studies and spiritual growth, he developed a deep knowledge of theology and a profound devotion to prayer.

One of the defining moments in Blessed José María González Solís' life was his ordination to the priesthood. It was a joyous occasion for him, as he was now able to administer the sacraments and serve the faithful. With great zeal and compassion, he embraced his role as a spiritual guide and shepherd to the flock entrusted to his care.

However, the peaceful life of Blessed José María González Solís was interrupted by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. During this tumultuous period, the Catholic Church became a target of persecution by opposing factions. Despite the danger posed by the prevailing circumstances, Blessed José María González Solís courageously stayed true to his faith and continued to minister to the suffering and oppressed.

Tragically, on 3 October 1936, Blessed José María González Solís fell victim to the violence of the Spanish Civil War. He was martyred in Bilbao, Vizcaya, Spain, bravely sacrificing his life for his unwavering belief in Christ. His martyrdom serves as a powerful testimony to his unwavering faith and deep commitment to the Gospel.

Blessed José María González Solís' selfless and courageous act did not go unnoticed. His holiness and dedication to God's people were officially recognized by the Catholic Church. On 10 May 2012, Pope Benedict XVI decreed his martyrdom, acknowledging the ultimate sacrifice he made for the sake of his faith. This declaration paved the way for his beatification, which took place on 13 October 2013, conducted by Pope Francis.

Today, Blessed José María González Solís is honored and venerated as a martyr and a defender of the faith. His feast day is celebrated on 3 October, the anniversary of his martyrdom. His example continues to inspire countless individuals to stand firm in their faith and to serve others with love and selflessness.
