Biografía

Blessed Juan Bazaga Palacios was born on 8 December 1904 in Benamargosa, Granada, Spain. He showed great dedication to his faith from a young age. After completing his studies at the seminary in Málaga, Spain, and the Abbey of Sacromonte, he was ordained a priest by the archdiocese of Granada on 21 September 1929.

Father Juan served as a parish priest in various locations, diligently carrying out his pastoral duties and spreading God's word to the faithful. He was deeply committed to his ministry and strived to bring others closer to Christ through his words and actions.

Unfortunately, Father Juan's life and ministry were cut short due to the devastating turmoil of the Spanish Civil War. The war, marked by political and religious conflicts, resulted in countless acts of violence against individuals who held strong religious convictions. Father Juan became a victim of this violence and was martyred for his faith on 11 August 1936 in Málaga, Spain.

The devotion and sacrifice demonstrated by Father Juan resonated with believers and led to his veneration, which began on 28 November 2019 with the decree of martyrdom by Pope Francis. This recognition by the Holy See emphasized Father Juan's commitment to the Catholic faith and his steadfastness in the face of persecution.

The beatification of Blessed Juan Bazaga Palacios took place on 26 February 2022, also celebrated by Pope Francis. The solemn ceremony was held at the Cathedral of La Encarnación del Señor in Granada, Spain. This beatification serves as a testament to Father Juan's holiness and his ultimate sacrifice for his faith.

Today, the memory of Blessed Juan Bazaga Palacios remains alive in the hearts of the faithful. His legacy serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the profound value of our beliefs and the courage required to stand firm in the face of adversity. Blessed Juan's intercession is sought after by those in need, as he is seen as a faithful intercessor before God, particularly for the preservation of religious freedom and the protection of the Church. He is remembered on his feast day, 11 August, and his final resting place is in the crypt of the cathedral in Málaga, Spain, where his memory continues to be honored.
