Biografía

Blessed Quirino Díez Del Blanco, also known as Gregorio of La Mata, was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to serving God as a Franciscan Capuchin priest. He was born on March 25, 1889, in the small town of La Mata de Monteagudo, León, Spain.

From a young age, Quirino displayed a strong inclination towards religious life. Recognizing his vocation, he joined the Capuchin Order, a branch of the Franciscan family known for their dedication to poverty and humility. In the order, Quirino adopted the religious name Gregorio of La Mata.

Throughout his time as a priest, Gregorio exhibited profound devotion to his duties. He tirelessly worked to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ and provide spiritual guidance to those in need. His sincere compassion and unwavering faith inspired many, and he became a beloved figure within his community.

Tragically, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War brought about a period of intense persecution of Catholics in Spain. Gregorio, along with many other members of the clergy, fell victim to these turbulent times. On August 27, 1936, he was martyred in Madrid, the capital city of Spain, for his unwavering commitment to his faith.

In recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Francis venerated Blessed Quirino Díez Del Blanco on March 27, 2013, by issuing a decree of martyrdom. This acknowledgment affirmed Gregorio's sacrificial death in defense of his beliefs and marked an important step towards his eventual beatification.

Subsequently, on October 13, 2013, Pope Francis officially beatified Quirino Díez Del Blanco, placing him among the ranks of the blessed. This beatification ceremony celebrated his life of holiness, his steadfastness in the face of persecution, and his ultimate sacrifice for his faith.

Today, Blessed Quirino Díez Del Blanco serves as an inspiration to countless faithful followers, embodying the virtues of dedication, courage, and unwavering devotion to God. His feast day is celebrated annually on August 27, commemorating the date of his martyrdom. As a martyr, he is remembered for his willingness to give up his life for what he believed in, leaving behind a legacy of faith and commitment that continues to resonate with believers around the world.
