Biografía

Blessed Ricardo López Y López, a Dominican friar, was born on January 13, 1914, in Olmos de Atapuerca, Burgos, Spain. He devoted his life to the service of God and entered the Dominican order, known for its commitment to preaching and scholarship.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Blessed Ricardo López Y López bravely stood up for his faith and the values he held dear. In the midst of great persecution and violence, he remained steadfast in his commitment to spread the message of peace and reconciliation.

Tragically, on August 8, 1936, Blessed Ricardo López Y López became a martyr for his faith. He was martyred in Manzanares, Ciudad Real, Spain, a victim of the religious persecution that engulfed the country during that time. His courageous stand for his beliefs and his refusal to renounce his Catholic faith led to his untimely death.

The life and sacrifice of Blessed Ricardo López Y López did not go unnoticed. His exemplary faith and martyrdom were recognized and celebrated by the Catholic Church. On December 11, 2019, Pope Francis issued a decree of martyrdom, officially marking his veneration as a martyr. This recognition was followed by his beatification ceremony, which took place on June 18, 2022, at the Cathedral of Santa María de la Sede in Sevilla, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, further emphasizing the significance and sanctity of Blessed Ricardo López Y López's life.

As a Dominican friar, Blessed Ricardo López Y López exemplified the values of his religious order.
