10 May 1950 in the prison hospital in Vacaresti, Bucharest, Romania from the abuse from repeated torture sessions, possibly after being shot; body burned by order of the Communist authorities, and the remains were buried in the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest; a white marble grave stone was erected on his grave in 1990; it has become the site of pilgrimage

Beato Vasile Aftenie, también conocido como Beato Vasile Aftenie, nació el 14 de junio de 1899 en Lodroman, Valea Lungă, Alba, Rumanía. Vivía en un período turbulento de la historia, marcado por la Primera Guerra Mundial y el ascenso del comunismo en Rumanía. A pesar de los desafíos que enfrentó, el Beato Vasile permaneció firme en su fe y dedicación al servicio de Dios.
