Biografía

Sabbas the Goth, Romanian: Sava Gotul, Greek: Σάββας ο Γότθος (died April 12, 372), was a Christian martyr venerated as a saint. Born in eastern Romania, he embraced Christianity at an early age. King Athanaric of the Goths, fearing that Christianity would jeopardize Gothic cultural traditions, initiated a persecution against Christians. In this context, Sabbas refused to consume meat sacrificed to Gothic gods, leading to his arrest and execution alongside priest Sansalas. He was drowned as punishment for his faith. The Passio of Sabbas offers valuable insights into Gothic life and culture during the 4th century. Basil of Caesarea later obtained his relics, ensuring his veneration within the Church.
