Blessed Maria Louise Merkert, also known as Maria Luiza Merkert, was born on 21 September 1817 in Nysa, Opolskie, Poland. She was the second and last daughter of Anthony Merkert and Maria Barbara Pfitzner, and she was raised in a pious, middle-class family. Unfortunately, Maria's father passed away when she was still an infant, leaving her mother to raise the two daughters on her own....
