Blessed Sylvester Ventura, also known as Sylvester of Valdisieve, was born in Florence, Italy, in an unspecified year. At the age of 40, he joined the Camaldolese monks at the convent of Santa Maria degli, situated in Florence. There, he humbly served as a cook, attending to the physical nourishment of his fellow monks.
