Saint Gerlac of Valkenburg, also known as Gerlac von Houthem, Gerlac of Maastricht, Gerlach, Gerlache, Gerlacus, Gerlachus, or Gerlak, was born into nobility around 1100 in Valkenburg, Netherlands. He lived a life filled with worldly pursuits and served as a soldier in the imperial German army. Engaging in a wild and licentious lifestyle, he even resorted to highway robbery....
