Saint Godelieve, also known as Godelieve of Ghistelles or Godelieve of Gistel, was born in 1049 in Londefort-lez-Boulogne, France, to the Flemish nobility. She was the daughter of Hemfried, Lord of Wierre-Effray. Godelieve was married to Bertulf of Ghistelles, a Flemish nobleman. Unfortunately, her marriage was filled with hardship and abuse from the beginning....
