Saint Irene of Thessalonica, also known as Herene, was born in the 3rd century in Thessalonica, Macedonia. She was the sister of Saint Agape and Saint Chionia, both of whom also became martyrs for their faith. During a time of intense persecution of Christians, Emperor Diocletian issued a prohibition in 303 against possessing the Scriptures....
