Saint Peter Canisius, also known as the Hammer of Protestantism, was born on May 8, 1521, in Niemguen, Netherlands. He was the son of Jacob Canisius, a wealthy burgomeister, and Ægidia van Houweningen, who passed away shortly after his birth. From a young age, Peter showed great promise and intellect.
