Saint Protogenes of Syria, also known as Protogenes of Harran or Protogene, was a priest in Edessa during the Arian persecutions of the Roman emperor Valens in circa 370. Amidst the persecution, the Catholic bishop of Edessa, Barsete, was sent into exile, prompting Protogene and a fellow priest named Eulogius to assume leadership of the Christian community in his absence....
