Biography
Hilarion (291–371), also known as Thavata of Gaza, was a Christian anchorite who lived during the late 4th century. He is celebrated for his dedication to monastic life and is considered by Jerome, his biographer, to be the founder of Palestinian monasticism. Hilarion's example followed that of Anthony the Great, who established Christian monasticism in Egypt, but he himself dwelled near Gaza....
