Saint Ingenuino
Feast Day
February 5
Biography
The establishment of a diocese is often the beginning of a spiritual lineage that outlasts the individual who planted the seed. In the rugged terrain of the Alps, where the boundaries between the Roman world and the northern tribes were often fluid, the arrival of the Gospel required steadfast leadership. Into this formative period steps Ingenuino, a figure whose primary claim to historical remembrance is his foundational role. He is recognized as the first bishop of the see of Bressanone, situated at Sabiona in the ancient province of Rhaetia, a region that now falls within the modern borders of Tyrol.
