Biography
Mateo Correa Magallanes was born on July 23, 1866, at Tepechitlán, Zacatecas, Mexico. He received a scholarship to attend the seminary in Zacatecas and was ordained as a priest in 1893 at the age of 27. As a young priest, he served as a parish priest in Concepción del Oro from 1898 until 1908, when he was reassigned to Colotlán. During this period, he gave first communion to Miguel Pro, who later became a martyr. In 1910, following the government's repression of the Catholic Church, Correa went into hiding. He continued his ministry in Valparaíso from 1926 until his death on February 6, 1927.
