Biography

Pope Sisinnius was elected bishop of Rome on January 15, 708, and died just twenty days later on February 4, 708. Little is known about his early life or career beyond the fact that he came from Syria and his father's name was John. His papacy was marked by his consecration of a bishop for Corsica and his order to reinforce the walls surrounding Rome. Sisinnius suffered from severe gout, which left him weak during his brief tenure as pope. He was buried in Old St. Peter’s Basilica after his death.
