Biography

Saint Fulk of Piacenza, also known as Fulk of Pavia, Folco Scotti, or Foulques, was a renowned Catholic figure who made significant contributions to the Church during the 12th and 13th centuries. Born in 1164 in Piacenza, Italy, his parents hailed from Scotland, which is why he is sometimes referred to as Fulk of Piacenza or Fulk of Scotland. Saint Fulk's journey in the Church began with his studies in Paris, France. There, he dedicated himself to acquiring knowledge and deepening his understanding of theology and canon law. After completing his studies, he returned to his hometown of Piacenza and became a canon. His dedication and commitment to his faith soon brought him notable recognition within the Church. As a result, he was appointed as the archpriest of Piacenza and later rose to become the bishop of the same city. His exemplary leadership qualities and dedication to his episcopal duties were highly regarded by his peers and the faithful alike. In 1216, Pope Honorius III chose Saint Fulk to serve as the bishop of Pavia, a prominent city in Italy. This appointment was a testament to his wisdom, morality, and integrity.
