Saint Leo of Africo, also known as Leone, was a twelfth-century hermit who lived in Calabria, Italy. He dedicated himself to a life of both contemplation of God and serving the poor through good works. He is particularly known for founding a monastery in Africo, Reggio, Italy, where he spent his later years. Little is known about the early life of Saint Leo, but it is believed that he was born in Calabria, Italy. He felt a deep calling to dedicate his life to God and chose to live as a hermit. He sought a life of solitude and prayer, desiring to detach himself from the distractions of the world. Saint Leo's journey led him to Africa, where he established a monastery in Africo.
