Biography

Saint Paternus of Vannes, also known as Paternus the Elder, Paterno, Patern, or Pern, was a fifth-century bishop who served the diocese of Vannes in Brittany, which is now a part of modern-day France. Little is known about his early life, but his remarkable contributions to the Church make him a revered figure in Catholicism. Paternus became bishop of Vannes during a time of great unrest and religious challenges. Despite these difficulties, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to his pastoral duties and worked tirelessly to spread the teachings of the Catholic faith. Through his preaching and example, he inspired many to embrace Christianity and supported the growth of the local Church in Brittany.
