Saint Proclus of Ancyra, also known as Proclo, was a revered martyr who met his untimely death during the persecutions of the Roman Emperor Trajan and the governor Maximus. His life and martyrdom serve as an inspiring testimony of unwavering faith and devotion to the Catholic Church. Proclus was born in Ancyra, which is located in Asia Minor, in modern-day Turkey. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was raised in a devout Christian family and received a solid education in the teachings of the Church. During the reign of Trajan, a fierce wave of persecution against Christians unfolded. Proclus, along with many other faithful believers, courageously embraced their faith and refused to renounce it, despite the threat of brutal punishment.
His firm conviction in the Catholic Church gave him the strength to endure the trials and tribulations that lay ahead. Proclus was eventually arrested and brought before Maximus, the local governor. Despite intense pressure and constant threats, he remained steadfast in his Christian beliefs and refused to worship the Roman gods. As a result, Maximus sentenced him to a cruel and agonizing death.
