Biography

Saint Ronan of Kilmaronen, venerated as a foundational evangelist in Scotland, is remembered for his pivotal role in establishing Christianity in the region of Innerleithen, Peeblesshire. As an early bishop, his mission is traditionally described as having "driven out the Devil" from the area—a common medieval expression signifying the successful introduction and consolidation of the Christian faith. His ministry laid the groundwork for the Christian community that would flourish in Innerleithen. The enduring legacy of Saint Ronan is celebrated annually in the "Saint Ronan’s Games," held each July in Innerleithen
