Saint Rusticus of Nicomedia, also known as Rusticus of Bitynia, was a revered Christian martyr. Born in Nicomedia in Bithynia, Asia Minor (near modern Izmit, Turkey), his exact date of birth is unknown. Unfortunately, not much is known about the early life of Saint Rusticus. Saint Rusticus lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, who initiated one of the most severe persecutions of Christians in ancient Rome. As a devout Christian, Rusticus fearlessly professed his faith in Christ despite knowing the risks involved. He became a target for persecution and was arrested for his unwavering commitment to his beliefs. Rusticus was subjected to severe torture and cruel torment at the hands of his captors. Even in the face of unimaginable suffering, he stood steadfast in his faith and refused to renounce Christianity.
His incredible strength of conviction, coupled with divine grace, enabled him to endure the pain and remain resolute in his commitment. Ultimately, Saint Rusticus was martyred for his faith.
