Little is known about his early years, but it is believed that Saint Sebastian joined a monastery and devoted himself to a life of prayer and contemplation. His deep spirituality and unwavering commitment to God caught the attention of his superiors, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the monastic hierarchy. In 1002, Sebastian was appointed as the Archbishop of Esztergom, which was then the primary see of Hungary.
