Saint Tetricus of Auxerre, also known as Tétrique or Tetricus d'Auxerre, was a prominent figure in the early history of Christianity in France. He served as the abbot of Saint Germanus Abbey in Auxerre and later became the Bishop of Auxerre by popular acclamation. Not much is known about Saint Tetricus' early life and background. However, it is believed that he was born in Gaul (present-day France) in the 7th century. As a young man, he dedicated himself to the service of God and entered the monastic life. He joined Saint Columbanus' monastery in Luxeuil, renowned as a center for Christian learning and spirituality. Under the guidance of Saint Columbanus, Tetricus received a solid education in theology and spirituality. He proved to be a dedicated disciple and displayed exceptional intelligence and wisdom.
Over time, his reputation as a holy and virtuous man grew, attracting the attention of the people of Auxerre. In recognition of his spiritual gifts and leadership qualities, Saint Tetricus was appointed as the abbot of Saint Germanus Abbey in Auxerre. The year 707 marked a tragic turn of events in Saint Tetricus' life. While he was asleep in his room, he fell victim to a violent act of murder.
